GRAND FINAL – Hectorville do battle with St Paul Old Scholars in the big dance. The Hounds are favourites but St Pauls are looking at back to back flags.

In one of the most inaccurate displays in front of goal all year, St Pauls advanced to the 2020 division 6 grand final to play Hectorville next week after narrowly escaping with an eight-point win. With high tides blowing gales all game, it made kicking difficult for both sides, as evident with the score-line. 32 combined behinds set the tone for the matchup, with just nine goals kicked between them. Matthew Rivett, from the losing Blackfriars, was the only player who could manage multiple goals, kicking two in the loss. Riley Hendriks was the best player afield for St Pauls, who trailed at half time by ten points before holding Blackfriars goal-less in the second half en route to the grand final clinching victory. Blackfriars will be left to wonder what could have been had they kept their sparkling early-season form going into finals, whilst St Pauls, who were the only side to beat Hectorville all year, will be looking forward to next week’s finale.

Here we go. The grand final is set. As it should be, the two sides in the best form will meet this week in the big dance. Hectorville have only played one game in the last three weeks, having two weeks off during this finals series, so they will be well rested and ready to go. It could also hold its disadvantages, though. They have not played a lot of footy lately, so their scintillating form may have disappeared, as they will need to bring it all against a worthy opponent in St Pauls. The visitors have hit their strides at the right time, beating Blackfriars twice in this finals series and only narrowly falling to Hectorville, after defeating the Hounds to end the regular season. There is literally no tomorrow after this week’s clash, so both sides will be sure to leave it all on the line as they contend for the division 6 premiership this Saturday at a neutral venue in Simonds Park. Who will come out on top, and be crowned the official div 6 premier for 2020, in a season that has been so strange.
